- Describe your bike commute
- I wake up refreshed (or depending on alcohol consumption the night before) or not, and ride to Linnaea's cafe via the Bike Boulevard where I drink a cup of glorious coffee, chat with Darci, Danielle, or Lauren C, read the New Times if it's new to me, and finally jump in the saddle and head up Marsh, avoiding the inconsiderate morning drivers, left onto Osos, right on Mill, for two blocks of peace, then left onto Hwy 1 where I spend my remaining commute hugging the extreme right side of the shoulder, harnessing my bike chi, hoping to not get hit by a dumb Cuesta student in a huge truck. Occasionally I'll have the good fortune of riding with a fellow commuter, but unfortunately I mostly run into "serious" road riders wearing jerseys and fancy shorts whom I love passing going up the hills carrying a backpack full of laundry wearing street clothes. Their bewildered faces are priceless! The wind typically favors me from the backside of the hill all the way to education drive, right past the county office of education and on my way to teaching kids environmental education at Rancho el Chorro Outdoor School for Kids. Then home in the afternoon with winds out of the west-northwest. Yaaa!
